In the time when the slayers of the heavy metal dragon
fought hard with the fury and fire of their instruments,
there lived WARNING. This 80’s Metal band - in the meantime
called WARNING SF for the avoidance of confusion - formed
in San Francisco in the year 1982 and has made this
resurgence after a record collector showed interest
in releasing the band’s material on vinyl for other
collector's of that sought-after vintage metal sound.
Guitarist JON TORRES, the founder of WARNING SF, decided
to re-record 7 of the old songs, and along with another
original member, BRIAN POOLE on bass, reformed the band
in the year 2000. Together they recruited AARON JELLUM
(previously lead-guitar with LAAZ ROCKIT), WILL CARROLL
(drums), and TORRE CARSTENSEN (vocals) to re-record
the old songs that are in the true style of the early
80’s metal movement with that typical Bay Area signature,
but with the state-of-the art modern recording facilities
available to them today. After almost 3 years of working
diligently, it all came together.
The band soon realized that the end result had become
more than just a re-release of some old songs they had
written in the six years between 1979 and 1985. When
the recordings where finished in 2002, and people began
to hear the material, a buzz was created around the
world that eventually reached executives at various
record companies. Several labels came forward with offers
that were placed on the table and the band ultimately
made a 3 album deal with MAUSOLEUM Records, the legendary
heavy metal label from Europe. The album features the
7 tracks that were re-recorded and also includes 3 bonus
tracks recorded in 1985, retaining that old analog sound
and the raw energy of WARNING as they were back in time.
The WARNING SF line-up of the new millennium includes
JON TORRES, who in the past played in such bands as
THUNDERHEAD, ULYSSES SIREN, ANGEL WITCH, REPULSA, I4NI
and last but not least LAAZ ROCKIT. AARON JELLUM, also
of LAAZ ROCKIT fame, who brought his signature lead
guitar style to the recording. WILL CARROLL, drummer
of OLD GRANDAD, and The CUTTHROATS 9, contributed his
thunderous precision drum style to the recording. TORRE
CARSTENSEN was lead vocalist for MY VICTIM, before adding
his melodic and harmonic singing style and cryptic lyrical
approach to the music. Original WARNING member BRIAN
POOLE, who initially played guitar and keyboards, has
now moved over to the bass and keys. BRIAN also brings
his sound songwriting abilities to the table along with
his twisted harmonic interludes, of which the piano
piece in the title track AFTERMATH is a good example.
Entitling the album AFTERMATH seemed right in the light
of the history, the lyrics of WARNING then and WARNING
SF now, along with the events in the world today.
The line-up for the WARNING bonus tracks, recorded in
the 80's, features current members JON TORRES and BRIAN
POOLE, along with vocalist ROB "THE HAMMER"
HALVERSON (famous in the 80’s for tossing his microphone
stand into the audience), bassist TERRY HAMILTON, and
drummer TANY FILLARI.
WARNING SF has shared the stage with bands such as
METALLICA, MEGADETAH, EXODUS, ANVIL CHORUS, HEATHEN,
MORDRED and VICIOUS RUMOURS and more. In the future
WARNING SF plan to tour as much as possible and look
forward to performing on stages all over the world.
