By the time Sammy Lasagni (Guitar), Mitch Koontz (Bass),
Peter Gander (Drums) and Anthony de Angelis (Vocals),
recorded their first 3-track demo, back in 2001, they
had already gained a solid reputation in their homeland
of Switzerland as an exciting live act. The demo further
solidified GODIVA’s reputation, and garnered them a
spot on various festivals the following year.
GODIVA recorded their eponymous debut album at the House
of Music Studio in Winterbach under the expert guidance
of top producers Tom Naumann and Achim Köhler. Shortly
after completing the recordings, GODIVA recruited ace
guitar player Moses B. Fernandez, and embarked on a
lengthy series of concerts, opening for bands such as
Freedom Call, Shakra, Primal Fear, Dokken and Y+T. The
highlights of the series certainly were the two successful
stadium-shows which they played in Greece in 2006, in
the presence of the Scorpions and Whitesnake.
While in the process of recording their second album,
vocalist Anthony de Angelis left the band. GODIVA fortunately
found a more than suitable replacement when Fernando
Garcia (previously with Victory) agreed to join the
line-up. Although still quite young at the time, Fernando
had gained vast experience and substantial success with
Victory, and was generally considered one of the major
vocal talents within the Heavy Metal scene. Needless
to say GODIVA were quite pleased to welcome him to the
fold. Once released, GODIVA’s second album “Call Me
Under 666”, was well received by fans and critics alike,
and even made it into the top 20 of the FMQB retail
charts in the USA – quite an achievement for a European
metal band!
Somewhere along the road guitarist Moses B. Fernandez
was replaced by the outstanding Steve Papacharitos,
who, together with Sammy Lasagni, now constructs killer
dual-attack riffs on top of the relentless groove laid
down by the rhythm-section of Mitch Koontz and Peter
Gander. In combination with Fernando Garcia´s stunning
voice and charismatic stage appearance, GODIVA are now
ready, willing and able to break into the higher ranks
of timeless Heavy Metal acts.
MAUSOLEUM RECORDS are proud – and that’s an understatement
– to welcome GODIVA to the label. GODIVA’s third album,
DESTRUCTION, will be rush-released on Friday, September
28, to coincide with the start of their European tour
with SHAKRA. Razorblade sharp riffs, screaming guitars,
pounding drums and crystal clear high-pitched vocals
are the main ingredients of DESTRUCTION, the album which
will confirm GODIVA’s position at the top of the metal
scene.
