DOUBLE DIAMOND was founded so many years ago that the
band doesn’t care to remember when exactly! In those
early dark ages they recorded two demos; REFLECTIONS,
which they produced themselves and BEHIND YOUR EYES,
produced by OSCAR HOLLEMAN.
In May of 1996 DOUBLE DIAMOND recorded a track which
was included on a sampler on the ASTERION RECORDS –
a label which has since bitten the dust - the same imprint
for which they recorded a live album later that year,
in August.
In 1997 came the first full studio album entitled IN
DANGER, produced by ex-SCORPIONS drummer RUDY LENNERS.
The album was very well received by international critics
and fans alike and got them a support slot on the HAMMERFALL
tour in 1998.
ANUBIS, a track from IN DANGER, was included on TRUE
BELIEVERS IN METAL, a German compilation album. In 1999
they recorded a new track; CHANGES, for yet another
compilation album called HEAVY METAL MANIACS, the brainchild
of the DUTCH METAL CLUB.
In August '99, after nearly two decades with the band
(now you have some idea for how long these guys have
been going), guitarist LUC PHILIPPI, had to leave the
band for personal reasons, and was replaced by TOM VAN
STEENBERGEN. Life on the road went on and they subsequently
toured with HIBRIA and STEEL WARRIOR (both from Brazil),
as well as with OVERKILL and ANNIHILATOR.
A split vinyl 12" single (AFTER ALL was featured
on the flip-side) was released in December 2001 and
was completely sold out in less than two weeks. More
tracks appeared on various compilations in Belgium and
Germany, such as RUN IF YOU CAN on the TRIBUTE TO RADIO
OVERDRIVE album, and METAL RULES on the METAL COVEN
sampler. More recently DOUBLE DIAMOND opened for OMEN,
KILLER, BLAZE, PRIMAL FEAR and W.A.S.P.
Over the years the name DOUBLE DIAMOND has almost become
synonymous with the term TRUE METAL. In September of
this year they will release their second studio album;
STAND UP AND FIGHT, on MAUSOLEUM RECORDS, the label
with whom they have just inked a long-term agreement.
Fans and aficionados of the genre will not be disappointed!
